The only real difference between them announced as of yet is the screen size; 4.6 in on the Ion and 4.3 on the S. Ion comes with 16gb, S comes in both 16gb and 32gb. I personally really like the design of the Xperia S better.
Only carrier announced for the Ion is AT&T, no US carriers for the S have been announced but it will be available on "Three UK" in the UK.
