What is the largest (most ports) USB hub I can reliably buy for my late-2009 iMac?

I need at least 7 ports but would be more comfortable with 10. Functionality and reliability trumps aesthetics but a decent looking one wouldn't hurt.

It's about the throughput really. The more ports you have, the less the throughput - and bear in mind that you can also daisychain hubs. You can, for example, technically have a 4-port (powered) hub, into each port is plugged a 4-port (powered) hub, and into each of those ports is plugged a 4-port (once again, powered) hub.
