What is the cheapest(within reason) way to hide my DirectTV (HD-DVR HR20-700) box in my cabinet and still be able to use the remote.

What is the cheapest(within reason) way to hide my DirectTV (HD-DVR HR20-700) box in my cabinet and still be able to use the remote control. I have it connected to the internet with an ethernet cable going straight into my Apple Time Machine.

I have been all over the internet and hearing about different products. I would like to spend less than $50.00 but if I can't I can go higher. I just want the Direct TV box in my cabinet. I would like to buy a IR cord and plug it in the back of the box and have the little sensor peaking through the back of the cabinet so it will be able to pick up my Direct TV remote signal. Also if you think I should get a universal remote to run my Sony TV, PS3, Apple TV, and my Direct TV box I'm open for suggestions. I just don't want to look at my Direct TV box. By the way I live in Washington, DC and I have to have Direct TV so I don't need advise on getting cable or Verizon.

Thank you everyone and I love this site!!!

You could always get the DirecTV iPad app (itunes.apple.com/us/app/directv-app-for-ipad/id421...) and then just use your iPad (noticed you have a 32GB 3G model there). This would be free, but anytime the iPad is not around it wouldn't work out very well.

The iPad app is really awesome. I use it more than the on screen guide these days. Would highly recommend it.

Check out the Logitech Harmony IR Extender System, it's about $50 and should do exactly what you're looking for. If you're looking for a universal remote you should consider the Harmony One, it's pretty popular here on gdgt: gdgt.com/logitech/harmony/one/

sorry i missed this question, but i would actually suggest something else. i picked up this (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BLTDZA) at amazon and am loving it! great angle support and range. cheap! ive even picked up a standard 3.5mm Y connector so i have two of the IR receivers in two different rooms in my home to control the AV equipment (i use that for zone 2 speakers for playing music at parties). works great!
