From what I can tell the only main difference will be the screen. The original skyrocket has a 4.5inch Super AMOLED plus screen with a lower resolution display (800x480). The Skyrocket HD has a larger 4.65inch screen, with a lower end Super AMOLED screen with a higher resolution at 720p.

Basically the screen technology on the original Skyrocket is newer and looks amazing, but has a lower resolution and slightly smaller. A real world comparison you can do would be with the original Skyrocket and a Galaxy Nexus, which has basically the same screen as the Skyrocket HD.
