Question about
What is the best mobile hotspot device for occasional use?
I have the iPhone 4S with Sprint and once a month I spend two days in SoCal. Sprints data is worst than dial up where I go and I need mobile data for those two days for my laptop. I'm thinking of getting a separate hotspot device through Verizon maybe? Bt I'd rather not sign a two year contract. Any other ideas?

As far as I am aware, you can get a hotspot from any provider on a prepaid set up. However, the hotspot will then be at full price (usually around 279 if I remember correctly).
-Moments Later: Checking with Verizon its actually 269 for a Hotspot or "Jetpack" as they call it, off contract/month-to-month. You would still need to activate it with them and I would check in stores first for data pricing. Hope your able to find one that works for you!

The only company that I can think of that won't make you sign a 2 year contract would be Virgin Mobile. The problem with Virgin is that they use Sprint's network, so you won't be solving the network problem. I believe all the other carriers lock you into 2 year contracts.

Good to know about Virgin piggybacking off Sprint's network. Thanks.
