Question about
What is the best capture device to preview/record with OSX (iMac)
- Preferably 720p or higher
UPDATE:
- My 360 is currently using HDMI, and I would like to maintain that if possible. Can the 360 output on both HDMI and Component if I went the route of the Hauppage HD PVR, as they are different interfaces on the back of the unit? This would also allow me to not need to keep the Hauppage powered on every time I went to use the 360.
Thanks!

I think you need something like the Hauppauge HD PVR. It can record video output from game consoles and such at up to 1080i. It uses component outputs on the game console to plug into this box, then pass it onto the TV.

For the Hauppage, You need the mac software which you have to buy separately (I believe an employee of the company works on it. The company doesn't officially support Macs. Is that still true?). Works great and quickly puts the video into MP4s. The only thing I wish is that it had a more "live" connection to the Mac so I could record my own chatter/commentary with a mic.
Other than that I think you'd have to go with the Black Magic stuff but it looks like their external stuff requires USB 3 or Thunderbolt. www.blackmagic-design.com/products/
My youtube channel (same username) has example video from the Hauppage. Some I played with the bitrate a bit so it doesn't look as good as it could.
