I have been looking around for some good solutions for NAS storage. At first I was considering drobo but I quickly realized that it may not be for me. Although it has some advanced features, it is very pricey and may be a bit over kill for me. At the moment I am considering WD My Book Live or Time Capsule.
Currently I have two computers on a network (there may be more in the future but that is unclear right now). I don't think I will need to back-up more than 500 GB of data, but I can reasonably only make that estimate for one year in the future. The My Book Live only offers 1 TB of storage so if I do need more space it may not meet my needs in the future. Time Capsule offers 2 TB and 3TB solutions and I think it has a lower price per/MB. The only thing is that I am also not sure if Time Capsule is for me because it seems to be closely tied to the Mac OS and I currently have no Mac computers on this network.
I am hoping that someone will be able to tell me what the best solution will be and give me some guidance. So far I haven't seen any other NAS solutions for consideration but I am open to suggestions.
The main purpose of my NAS will be for backing up data rather than sharing data; although I wouldn't mind taking advantage of that feature. I was planning on using Crash Plan to do the backup.
One other question is does Time Capsule also function as a router?

What is a good NAS storage solution?
The Time Capsule is an Air port Extreme + hard drive. In other words, A WiFi Router and Hard Drive backup in one. It will also do printer sharing and you can add on more hard drives through the USB port on the Time Capsule.
The read/write speed and reliability of the WD MyBookLive will be better than the Time Capsule because the WD option uses larger 3.5" Hard Drives.
The Buffalo LinkStation has some nice features and a good price, worth considering. I think the WD MyBookLive is faster though. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001FO2VF2/ref=as_li_ss_...
