Here, I'll sum it up for you:
The Apple Pippin was a multimedia platform designed by Apple and produced by Bandai in 1995. It cost $599, and was marketed as a cheap computer, but it really was pretty much a video game console since it could play CD-based multimedia (like games). Apple wasn't planning on producing it as a standalone product, so they licensed the Pippin to Bandai (who at the time was interested in getting into video game consoles). Bandai chose the Pippin to work off of, but unfortunately for them the market of 1995 was already controlled by other game consoles like the Sega Saturn, PS1, and N64. It also didn't help that the Pippin didn't have much software ready since Bandai was pretty much the only major publisher for the platform. Only about 100,000 Pippins were made (they actually sold about 42,000) before it was discontinued.
Hope that helps!
