Question about
What happened to CTR 002–008?
Last night Nintendo officially announced their add-on pad for the 3DS, which adds an extra circle pad to the unit, identical to the one that already exists on the left side. It also has R1 and R2 buttons.

Looking at the actual product announcement, you can see what the product code for the slide pad is "CTR-009". A quick Google search reveals that "Nintendo CTR" was the development codename for the 3DS and in fact, the current product code of the 3DS is CTR-001.
As far as I know, this slide pad is the first Nintendo-produced peripheral for the 3DS, which makes me curious as to why it goes straight to 9. What other products have been released for the 3DS? What concepts could they have gone through that were number 002–008, which they didn't consider good enough to be released into the wild? What products were considered that would not, could not, booster the soft sales of the 3DS?

This looks like a weird add-to me. Un-customarily clunky for Nintendo standards.

I looked at my 3DS AR cards and in fact found that the product id is CTR-002. I am guessing the rest of the stuff that came with the 3DS are the 002-008. It only makes sense since the circle pad is the first 3DS add on peripheral sold outside of the 3DS package.

Did Nintendo release an official carry bag accessory? (You know, like the way they released that awesome black and hot pink hip pouch when the original Game Boy came out? Yeah, I'm a total dork, I bought one.) Perhaps that is one of them? I haven't paid much attention to the accessories since all I wanted was the 3DS + Street Fighter iV, which I have and am loving. :)

Awesome, I just located this site which gives the product numbers for Nintendo hardware and accessories:
maru-chang.com/hard/english.htm
It doesn't have part numbers for the 3DS yet, but based on the information presented there, it's a good bet that if 002 is the AR cards, then 003–008 are other parts. These are the ones I've confirmed. The ones in italics are speculative.

I think the peripheral will add the depth the console needs to stay on par with the PSPVita.
