Hi, I have owned a Windows Phone 7 hanset (HTC Trophy 7) for almost a year now, and I actually think it is a really great mobile operating system, though there are a few definicies with Windows Phone as anoperating system.
Starting off with the OS' good points, the first and most ovbious strength of the OS is its beautiful and intuituve Metro UI. In my opinion, Metro is the most attractive of the major OS, and it makes the more conventional UI's of iOS and Android.
Another thing I like about the OS is its integration with onlline services such as Facebook, LinkdIn and Twitter. Facebbok and LinkdIn integration has been there since the first version of the Windows Phone OS and Twitter was added witht he 7.5 release. It is really handy to be able to just pull all your contacts down via these services, and certainly saved me hours transferring my friends phone numbers to my handset.
The OS also handles notifications from these services really well, displaying a message on the 'Me' tile to let you know you have a new Facebook message/Twitter DM.
The OS also integrates well with Microsoft's online services such as Office, Hotmail, and even Xbox Live allowing you to earn acheivements on the go, or even use your phone as a remote using the Xbox Companion app.
If I were to say there is one weakness with the OS, I would say that it is the app store for Windows Phone. The marketplace has over 50,000 apps currently, which is lower than either Android and iOS who both have over 250,000 apps. However, this figure is misleading in my opinion, as I believe Windows Phone has a higher standard of apps proportionately compared to its two main rivals.
So in conclusion, if you are looking for a polished and well-made operating system, Windows Phone is a definate contender. With an intuitive and beautiful UI and excellent online integration with Microsoft's services and products, it is an operating system that has a comparable feature set with the two main movile OS's.
If you are thinking of switching to a Windows Phone device soon and live in the US, my advice would be hold out til March for Nokia to release the Lumia 900 as it is a breatrhtaking piece of kit, I live in the UK, and am really hoping Nokia are releasing it over here, as the additional features of the device such as its front-facing camera make it seem much more attractive than the impressive, but slightly disappointing Lumia 800.
