What are good pre-paid cell phone plans in Philippines & Hong Kong for data?

In two weeks I will be going to Philippines and Hong Kong to visit family and I'll have a smartphone with me for the first time.

I'll mostly be using my phone for texting and data (can't wait to get my first international foursquare checkin!).

What prepaid service providers offer the best value when it comes to texting and data in Philippines and in Hong Kong?

P.S. If it helps, I'll be in Makati in Philippines.

For Philippines, all three (Smart, Globe, and Sun) major telcos are fine. The difference between their prepaid plans aren't too noticeable, especially since you'll stay in Makati. It's also extremely easy to find and buy prepaid sim cards, so that's not a problem.

I'd recommend Smart, though. That's what I use and am satisfied. For unlimited data/day, that's P50 (around 1USD) and you can subscribe by sending "unli 50" to "211".

Not sure if this is the right place for this type of question, but you're lucky to find the answer anyway.

For Hong Kong:

- if you want value for money: Three HK is also good. 28HKD for unlimited data a day (initially starts at 2HKD per MB but stops charging you when you get to 28HKD) you can get a data sim from three stores throughout hk (also capable of calls btw)

- if money is no object: CSL (best network in HK) but their prepaid data are a little more expensive.

For PH:
I also recommend Smart since they have 850Mhz network (same as AT&T in US) which means they have better wall penetration Vs. Globe or Sun (only 2100Mhz license holder)

Aside from Unli 50 you can also try Unli 300 (7 days) and Unli 1200 (30 days) to 211.

i'd recommend Smart too. their 3G data is very stable. if you don't need unlimited data, you can try subscribing to their Always On promo. for around Php 300 (roughly around US$7) you'll be able to use 250MB of data for 30 days

A great question! I will be spending couple weeks in Boracay, was wondering if Smart is also a good choice on the island. Prices seem great!
