There was no official statement. Its also really tough to say because its a new device on a new platform on a new operating system

I would hope it achieves Ultrabook battery life because that is what they are targeting for competition. So several hours.

And on the battery point, they did state at some point of the keynote "a full day of entertainment" and having in mind that the ASUS Transformer Prime has a 25 Wh battery and goes for 10 hours... the Surface RT has a 35.1 Wh battery... so should easily get to the same 10 hours if not more.

The Surface Pro will have a 42 Wh battery.

Of course things can change by the time it is really released.

I did the maths on an Iconic W500 running Win 8 preview that another GDGT user was reporting 4-5 hours of battery life in high drain applications (viewing HD video) and a full day of usage on regular computing tasks. The battery spec on the Iconica was 39.1 W-h (by my back of a envelope maths) so a little less than the Surface Pro. I think we will be looking at fairly good battery life for most apps, but the ability to drain it if you are not careful, or install a lot of background tasks.

Nothing announced on battery life, yet. The release date has just been announced, though. October 26, 2012. It's the same day when Windows 8 releases as well. Guess we'll know more soon.
