Want to install Spotify on your HP TouchPad?
Unfortunately it hasn't been updated to work with the TouchPad, which means you can't install it from the HP App Catalog.
The good news: if you're comfortable with tweaking your TouchPad, you can manually load the app onto the device. Your TouchPad needs to be in developer mode for this to work. If you're not familiar, on webOS products, developer mode is a special state that allows you to install unofficial apps and run system-level commands on the device.
To activate webOS developer mode, tap into the "Just Type" search box, and type in the Konami Code. That's "upupdowndownleftrightleftrightbastart", without quotes. If you're lazy, you can also just type "webos20090606" and achieve the same result. You'll see a Developer Mode icon appear in the search results; tap on that, and flip the developer mode switch to ON. If you're prompted for a password, just hit the submit button. Restart the device if prompted.
Now that we're in developer mode, we're going to manually install the Spotify app:
1.) Plug your TouchPad into your computer with the USB cable. When an alert appears on the TouchPad asking if you want to use USB Drive mode, just hit the Cancel button.
2.) On your computer, download webOS Quick Install, a Java app that lets you sideload applications and run commands. dl.dropbox.com/u/2774158/WebOSQuickInstall-4.2.3.j... Open it up, and let it install the drivers it needs to communicate with webOS devices. You may have to restart the app once it's finished.
3.) We need to install Preware, the webOS homebrew app store, onto the TouchPad. In webOS Quick Install, there are three buttons stacked along the right: a plus sign, a minus sign, and a globe. Click on the globe. In the search box, type in "Preware". Click on Preware in the results list and hit Install. After a few seconds, it should appear in the app launcher on your TouchPad (it might be located on the Downloads page).
4.) Launch Preware on your TouchPad. Hit the search icon in the top right and type in "Internalz". Tap on Internalz Pro and hit the Install button. This will install a file manager that we'll need to use later.
5.) Download the Spotify app onto your computer. dl.dropbox.com/u/947801/spotify_webos.zip Unzip it.
6.) On your computer, in webOS Quick Install, click the green plus sign button. Navigate to the Spotify folder that we unzipped a moment ago, and select "com.palm.app.spotify_0.5.1_all.ipk". Now hit the Install button.
7.) Under the Tools menu, click Send File. Select the file named "com.spotify.palmserver.json" from the Spotify folder we unzipped. For the Destination box, type in "/spotify" without the quotes. Hit the Send To Device button.
8.) Do the same exact thing for the file named "com.spotify.palmserver.service". Destination is still "/spotify".
9.) On your TouchPad, launch Internalz Pro. Go to the root directory by tapping "..." twice. Look for a folder named "spotify" and tap on it.
10.) Tap on "com.spotify.palmserver.service" and hit Copy in the menu. Copy it into these 2 folders (you'll have to do them one at a time):
/var/palm/system-services/
and
/media/cryptofs/apps/usr/palm/applications/com.palm.app.spotify/resources/
11.) Tap on "com.spotify.palmserver.json" and hit Copy. Copy it into these 3 folders:
/var/palm/ls2/roles/pub/
and
/var/palm/ls2/roles/prv/
and
/var/palm/ls2/roles/
(Thanks to kayphoonstar at PreCentral for sharing these directory paths: forums.precentral.net/3038613-post26.html)
12.) Reboot your TouchPad and launch the Spotify app!
Also check out the terrific patch that Keroi shared below, which will make Spotify use the entire screen instead of running inside the phone-sized frame.
I made a patch to have a HD-like version of Spotify for the TouchPad.
You can download the patch here : webos.keroi.net/patchs/spotify-hd.patch
You need to install the patch with webOs Quick Install, once Spotify is installed on your tablet.

I hope it will be useful for some people!

As with all mobile streaming on Spotify, it requires Spotify Premium.
From the link you provided: NOTE: Requires a Spotify Premium subscription.
Just thought I would mention that so folks know that before they attempt this.

Note that one of the 'file copy' actions prompted me to confirm to over-write an existing file, which I said no to...
Thank you for this! So glad to have Spotify on yet another device.
