Valid Concerns about the Motorola Cliq (HELP RYAN!!)
I love the whole android system, enough to keep me with tmobile and not switch to an iphone and truly felt the G1(despite its well documented flaws) was a fantastic, super customizable, really fun phone. Wanting to stay with tmobile after years of fantastic customer service and the need for a keyboard I went with the Cliq.
Yes, I want the Droid, but it just isn't an option to switch for me, so now I am concerned.
Before I go on to my issues, I have to say i like the phone, it is much faster than the G1 and I love the social integration. Also has a much better camera and a headphone jack, both issues that drove me crazy on the G1, even though I really enjoyed it.
Bought the Cliq two days ago and started noticing some major issues in their choice to ship with 1.5
I spent quite alot of time going through forums, emailing and calling tmobile and motorola and while they apparently will upgrade their "phone" which is amazing(the latest upgrade did wonders for battery life and sensitivity), I am concerned they are not aware of how important the Os has become and the fact that they used Android as a base doesn't mean they can avoid the features that come with updates everyone else with an android gets.
I am not super concerned about 2.0 because this phone has managed to cover most of the features with 1.5 but there are some glaring holes.
market- Why would they not at least push 1.6 so we could have the market and apps that everyone else with an android phone has? ( I refuse to go to any phone that doesn't have extensive apps having owned a G1 and an Ipod touch, if Motorola wasn't going to fully support it they shouldn't have included it)
The new search features allowing you to search the entire phone in one toolbar, with all the syncing on this phone you would think that this would be a given.
There is a whole list of issues people have, but without nit picking these are glaring issues. I feel as though Motorola jumped on the android bandwagon to sell some handsets and with the vocal online community I am surprised that they weren't expecting a backlash, a big one.
If Motorola wants to save face(droid will only get them so far if it is only on one carrier, as much hype as its getting, it will not beat the Iphone at this point) they need to resolve this matter with at least a statement telling us why not even 1.6.
I have the grace period on my phone for a week or so, I want a reason why I don't return it, at this point it would make more sense to get another G1. Ryan, anyone in the know please convince me otherwise.
It is obnoxious that the blur skin on top of android limits the speed that motorola can get us the updates to out Cliqs but be patient. I've done quite a bit of research lately on this and am confident it is getting updated and not ignored. In fact many of these forums have been brought up the chain of command at Motorola and they are very aware that ignoring the Cliq and android OS updates will be a mistake.

I own a Samsung Moment running 1.5 and there's not even news about updates to 1.6 or 2.0 in the near future... My girl got a cliq just a few weeks ago and compared to Samsung, you get a much richer experience because of motoblur than with the plain stock UI. So far the best UI out there on 1.5 is HTC's Sense UI (I had the Hero for a couple weeks but I wanted a physical keyboard)
You'll get OS updates sooner with Motorola than me with Samsung...

Stands to reason the CLIQ will get 2.0 eventually, but who knows when that's going to be. You can always wait for 3rd party firmware builds to surface, but if it were me, I'd probably ditch it and get something else!
