Using the iPad charger to charge the iPhone.

Are there any risks if the iPhone is charged using the 10W iPad charger. Does it damage or adversely reduce the life of the battery in anyway?

No, there aren't any issues with using the iPad charger for the iPhone. The charger's maximum power output is 10W, but ultimately it is up to the device to regulate how much current it draws. The iPhone will only draw as much current as it needs to properly charge the battery/power the device. Doesn't matter that the charger is capable of providing more than that.

I found that charging my iPhone 4 with a new iPads charger made the phone charge really, really slowly.

I've found the 2 Amp (iPad) chargers to be a much faster charge for iphone 4 and up. It's possible that you lose some battery life though. I don't think anyone has done a through study on the topic.
