Upgrading to 4GB of RAM

I'm considering upgrading to 4GB of RAM, I saw this Crucial 4GB (2 x 2GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) at Newegg for $57.99.

Has anyone install this kind? Or recommend any other brand?

Thanks

crucial is quality stuff. seems most of the initial RAM upgrade issues were by people being careless and zapping their modules with static electricity. the macbook may be a bit more RAM sensitive than most but I have yet to ever run into an issue upgrading mine or others' macbooks using crucial, transcend (from ramjet and OWC), mushkin, or corsair.

just be extra vigilant when handling the modules during unpackaging and installation and you'll be fine.

Can we get an definite answer for the max RAM this unit can take? I've seen 4GB listed in most places, but occasionally see some people saying it can handle 6GB. Any answers? I purchased mine April 2009.

I usually check crucial for the specs then shop around a little for better prices. Newegg is usually pretty competitive with RAM prices.

It's the same stuff I used to upgrade mine (2x2GB) and I've got no complaints. I also upgraded the HDD to a 320GB 7200 WD Scorpio Black. Works great!

I did a similar upgrade on my MacBook Pro from Crucial. Might even be the exact same kit. Took me less than 10 minutes to do from shutdown, through the install, back together and reboot. Make sure that you have the very small screwdrivers at hand.

I did it with relative ease, except that I had to buy some very small screwdrivers during the process. A bigger screwdriver will wear down the screw.

Crucial or OWC are good brands. The price for that Crucial ram is reall good too. I'd get it.

If you have a 13'' Macbook unibody, and the 4GB RAM upgrade causes your computer to freeze up randomly, take it to Apple. Apparantly all of the launch models were unable to use 4GB of RAM. They are aware of the issue and switched my logicboard out. The updated version has the firmer headphone jack and fixed chipset. For the record, i used Crucial RAM and it works like a charm now.

I upgraded mine with 4 GB from Crucial; no issues except I'm still missing one of the damned little screws...anybody know where I can get a replacement? The Apple store wasn't any help.

I installed OWC in my 13 inch Unibody MacBook. It has worked flawlessly every since.

Here is the video of me doing it (shameless plug...sorry)

That's exactly what I've used too, 2x2GB Crucial RAM from Newegg, and it's worked great in my unibody MacBook Pro. I don't usually do anything too resource-intensive, so I couldn't really give specifics for performance improvements, but I've had absolutely no problems with it. I mostly got it because it was a good deal on a good brand, DDR3 elsewhere was usually pretty pricey.

Is there a way to install 500GB of storage into that badboy? I need more room, my 250GB is running out of room.

I installed a Seagate Momentus 500GB 7200RPM drive (model #ST9500420ASG) in my 15" unibody MacBook Pro - right now you can get one from newegg for $120. I've had it installed since April or May and it's been working fast and flawlessly. The install was super easy too, swapped out the drive in less than 10 minutes... there are video tutorials on youtube if needed, but it's really simple and I can't imagine it would be much different on the unibody MB.

Also, I installed 4GB of crucial RAM and it works great. It's not expensive at all to really beef up stock Apple notebooks these days.

Mushkin ram in my unibody, with great results. OWC has a great video on Youtube for installing. Literally took 10 minutes. Will be upgrading my hard drive this weekend.

Anybody make the jump to 8gb with snow leopard? Would that even be advantageous?

i upgraded to 4 gb of kingston ram pretty soon after getting my 2.0 laptop & recently compared it to one of those new 2.26gz plastic unibodies with stock 2gb of ram & my machine is a lot quicker when opening programs & overall performance in apps like word etc

both machines had the same version of 10.6.2 & i had just installed the same programs on to the plastic macbook that i had on mine

it was pretty confusing since i have my snow leopard since release & she had just bought the plastic unibody a week ago

cant think of anything other than the ram upgrade that could have tilted the results in favor of my older machine
