Trouble Installing the New Update

Shortly after I got my Storm, I did the first update to 4.7.0.75, no problems. But now, with the update that came out a few weeks ago (4.7.0.148), I haven't been able to update. It starts the download then tells me I don't have enough space, although I most certainly do - both on my internal memory and on my MicroSD card. And until I get a new Windows laptop, I won't be using Blackberry's desktop software.

I'm sure others have run into this problem, as both my wife and I are getting the same results.

Any ideas?

This is late, but may help you or others with future updates. Myself and a couple co-workers have this phone and had this very issue. Found the easiest way is to do the update through your computer as Joe1059 mentioned. With this, there is no need to do a massive delete for space.

I was sure I cleared enough room and it would demand more from me... With the computer update, there was no need. Worked on co-workers phone first time with no deletes. And he has a lot more "stuff" on his phone then both of us.

The only thing I could do to update the phone was to visit: www.blackberry.com/update
I couldn't run the OTA update either.

You'll need a windows computer, Internet Explorer, and the USB data cable. Then just visit the website, follow the simple steps, and in about 20 minutes, you'll be running the latest and greatest Storm update!

Hope that helps!

You could take it to a Verizon store, they can update it for you there.

I agree with bdube. The betas and hybrids have definitely helped out with my Storm experience. I'll also throw in crackberry.com as a good source to find hybrids and betas as well.

JTastic I agree crackberry is prob one of my most visited sites its great. The update to .148 has helped but not solved anything I still have to pull the batt a few times a day and the occasional freeze. Does anyone else hate the SurePress Click screen?

If you're on this site you've probably already tried this, but I'll throw it out there anyway. Turn the power off and take the battery out for a minute or so. Then pop it back in and try it again. This happens to me every so often with my pearl (July 12 can't get here soon enough) and the reset always seems to magically free up space.

I had the exact same problem when I was installing the new update. What I did, (it sucks but it worked) was started deleting apps and then going back and resuming the download. I had to go through at least 3 "delete-fests" before it would complete the download. Then once the update is installed, you can go back and re-download all of the apps you deleted.

^ Ditto to the above ^

I had to uninstall almost all my apps to do this update. I just reinstalled them after it was complete.

When you do the download it will tell you how much space you need. You can check how much you have available by going to Options >> Memory and looking under Application Memory. Just delete enough apps to free up what is needed

I just ran the Desktop Manager and walked away for ~30 minutes, and it was done
