Traveling with this beast

I'll be living in Shanghai for the next four months and will need my computer. Does anyone have any suggestions on traveling with the iMac? I would prefer not mailing it, but don't know how safe checking it would be. Any suggestions would be great!! Thanks.

Mailing it would probably be the best solution, but you could try packing a special suitcase and try to carry it on. Checking bags with valuables was always a tough choice for me because I know the ground crew is just going to chuck my bag on and off the plane.

Mailing in the original box with it's packing materials is probably going to be your best bet - it's what I would do.

I have personal shipped this beast once in the original box but i bagged the machine in a bag and filled the box with packing peanuts I also covered the box with cardboard boxes. i was worried about advertising that this was an iMac computer. The machine arrived fine with no damage and booted up fine and i couldn't tell it had just gone cross country on a UPS truck.

but you could see the scuff and banged in corners on the box. i personally count myself as lucky that this thing survived the cross country trips like this.

i recently sold that machine to Gazelle and it was shipped from Seattle to Boston and it was ground again and they did not report of any issues or problems once they received the machine and since they payed the full quoted price I'm guessing it arrived in working order.

thats makes it twice now its gone cross country.
