Question about
seth

Today I replace my Palm Pre with an iPhone 4. The question: AT&T or Verizon in San Francisco? Damnit I want unlimited data :-( And reception.

My assumption is that Verizon's the best way to go given AT&T's coverage in SF, but I don't hear nearly as many complaints about AT&T today as even a few months ago.

So what's the lodown, SF? Still worthwhile to go with VZ, or is AT&T finally acceptable? Or is this all a game of Russian Roulette either way?

Verizon a thousand times over. But yeah, no more unlimited data for you unless you got into VZ earlier this month.

When was the last time you went out of the country? If you can barely recall, Verizon seems like a fine choice -- unless you find yourself browsing the web while talking on the phone a lot.

Although I have to wonder: why would you get your phone right now? A new phone is just around the corner, we are well past the "don't buy zone" on this year's model!

Unless you really need a phone today, I'd suggest waiting until this fall when the next iPhone comes out (rumored around September?), and possibly the Pre 3 is coming out. Since you'll have to switch carriers for either phone, might as well get the latest and greatest.

Unless your phone is dead, I would wait.
Also, if you currently have Unlimited Data, you may be able to keep it when you upgrade with the same carrier (try calling retention if the store gives you a hard time)

I haven’t actually had any real issues with AT&T anymore since the Verizon iPhone came around. I don’t do a lot of phone calls, though, so if that’s something you (need to) do on a regular basis, ignore my answer. If data is all you use, AT&T is perfectly fine again these days. (thankfully)

You really want to buy a phone with a soon to be obsolete radio for VZW, and then be on a shitty network that has no long term "real" 4G plans (AT&T)? Because I bet you're not going to want to buy the iPhone 5 when it comes out having upgraded already.

I would wait some weeks for the Pre 3.
