Question about
TiVo iPad app unable to find TiVo Premiere box?
Has anyone else had an issue with the TiVo iPad app being unable to find a TiVo Premiere box on the network? Things were working fine not too long ago, but I haven't used the app for a bit and after upgrading tonight (to version 1.0.4 build 1727) I keep getting an error:
"This application is intended for use with TiVo Premiere boxes only. While we found an older model of TiVo DVR on your local network, we could not find a TiVo Premiere box. Checkout the special TiVo upgrde offer at www.tivo.com/upgrade " with buttons to sign in (presumably to make a purchase), and scan again (which doesn't find the box).
There's also a utility icon, but manually inputting the IP address of the TiVo Premiere box into its manual entry host field only causes the app to crash fatally and become unable to launch at all. Obviously I can confirm both devices are on the same network and such, but the iPad app just isn't detecting the Premiere as being, well, a Premiere.

It took me a lot of tinkering to get my iPad app working well with the TiVo premiere, but I also have a complex network setup involving wifi, the router and a couple of switches. Simplifying the TiVo's connection and giving priority helped (my priority goes to my consoles usually).
Secondly, if I was having issues, a TiVo reboot seemed to resolve - and I also had to reboot after adjusting the settings. The Premiere 10-minute reboot is a pain thanks to it checking all of its software for tampering, but the pain of a night figuring it out has been worth it to get the iPad app up and running well.
So my advice in this situation is to reboot your TiVo over night and see if that cures your ills in terms of connecting with the new build.

I had this problem after rebooting my Verizon FiOS router. Nothing I did would fix the problem (including rebooting the TiVo Premiere, deleting and redownloading the app, etc.). I decided to leave it overnight, and the next morning it worked again. I still have no explanation as to why this happened, but I did send a note to TiVo explaining the issue and hope there's a fix so it doesn't happen again.

What worked for me was:
* bring the Tivo up to date with the most recent version of the Tivo software
* reboot the Tivo (holy crap, this takes an hour!?)
* kill any running Tivo app on your iPad
* disable wifi on the iPad
* re-enable wifi on the iPad
* start up the Tivo iPad app again

I've had the same issue for some time now and it works for awhile then goes back. I told TiVo about it And they told me to reboot the box. Did that once but after a few hours it couldn't find it again. I figured out that if I just unplug the network cable from the back of the TiVo box and put it back in the app finds the box...for a little while...

For me, rebooting my wireless router did the trick. But it may not have been the root cause. I have more trouble with my home network than I have at work with hundreds of users. I see no reason why consumer network gear can't be just as reliable as enterprise class stuff. I would gladly pay 3x more for something I don't have to hassle with...
