Should I get the iPad 3 now or wait for a Windows 8 ARM slate later this year?

Well it seems you are debating between 3 tablets. The iPad 3rd gen, the TF201, or some future Windows 8 tablet.
If you need a tablet now, don't wait for Windows 8, because that may take a while. Otherwise analyze whether you are more into Apple's ecosystem with iTunes or Google's ecosystem with all of their cloud services and gmail.
The longer you can afford to wait, the better the device you will get. That's how technology works.
From there it should be easy to decide which tablet you should get.

Microsoft has a lot of catching up to do with Android and obviously with Apple. Enjoy one of these more mature platforms now. Make Microsoft prove that they deserve your money, and give them a serious look when they actually have a product to look at . . . when you are ready to buy another tablet two or three years from now.
Windows RT (Windows 8 for ARM) can't possibly hit its stride for at least another year from an app and accessory/media ecosystem point of view. I want to believe that Windows RT will be a winner, but that probably isn't a realistic possibility until later in 2013 when Service Pack 1 ships on a second or possibly a third iteration of the hardware platform. One would have to be a very hard core Microsoft fan to want on the Windows RT bus right away.
In contrast to Windows RT, one knows exactly what to expect with the iPad 3. If that appeals to you, then there is no reason to wait. If that doesn't appeal to you, why not consider an Android tablet? Google may be stumbling with the tablet form factor, but the Android hardware vendors are offering some interesting alternatives to iPad nonetheless. Either way, you will be using a platform with at least a two to three year head start . . .
