Question about
This makes a great HTPC, does it make a basic / okay gaming rig?
Serious question. Civilization V (!!!) will be released in September. It's been awhile since I've dabbled in the world of PC gaming. I got rid of my custom built tower a few years ago (after it had been relegated to nothing more than a nightstand for the longest time).
Since I primarily use Macs now for personal pursuits, hobbies, and even work, I'm contemplating what I can do to run Civilization V in two months. I suppose one option would be to run bootcamp (though I have limited hard drive space at the moment). I was also thinking of building myself a new rig -- *just for this game*. Seems like an excessive waste of money.
Third option? Something super cheap. Like the AspireRevo. With Ion, it cuts through multimedia content like no one's business. Do you think it has enough power for a game like Civ? I'm not looking to run something at 2560 x1600, 95 fps.
Anyway, curious if other people have considered (or even taken) similar actions.

You can't play it in Boot Camp?

I'd have some reservations about the Ion video card. Over at newegg some people were complaining about lack of HD video support but they didn't post what their set up is so it's hard to say why it's not working for them. It's possible they're using something that doesn't support hardware acceleration which is where the Ion really shines.
For the same price I'd say look into a Dell Zino. They're constantly putting 15 & 20% off coupons for the outlet up on their outlet twitter account so you can get a solid budget machine for $250-$350 pending specs (dual core athalon, 4GB ram, 1GB video card will run you around $350 after the coupon)

I would doubt that this computer would run Civilization 5. I haven't found any system requirements yet for Civilization 5, but I did look up the requirements for Civilization 4 (2005). This computer looks like it does meet the minimum requirements for that game, but doesn't even make the recommended requirements on that 5 year old game. It's likely that this computer will not run Civilization 5.
There is no release date yet for the Mac version of Civ 5, but they have confirmed there will be one.
