There are several things that have been seen to work for many people. However, I believe there are many things contributing to the problem so you have to find which one(s) apply to you.
For me, the only thing that works is turning off cellular data in Settings > Network.
When it is on my battery lasts 5-8 hours, with it off it lasts around 12-15 hours.
Other suggestions:
EDIT: Yeah, I just remembered, update to the latest firmware (5.1 currently) which claims to contain bug fixes related to battery life

Other suggestions:
- Turn off all settings you don't need. Don't use Bluetooth? Turn it off. Same goes for WiFi, notifications from apps that don't need it, push email etc.
- Switch off 'Raise to Speak' for Siri
- Turn off Ping in Settings > General > Restrictions (who uses it anyway?)
- Go to Settings > Location Services > System Services and turn off all the ones you don't want/need
- Turn down your brightness
- Don't use location based reminders (this constantly uses your GPS)
- If none of this works, do a full restore

In addition to what mullane correctly suggested, you might want to consider following Apple's advice about battery calibration:
"For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down)."
