Suddly stopped working

My zune was working on Friday when I was driving home from work and it sat on my night all weekend. Now I got to work this morning (Monday) and plugged it into my XP workstation @ work and it keeps switching between the following screens on the zune.

1) Connect Zune to your PC
2) On your PC open the Zune software and restore the Zune device firmware.

I have been unable to do step #2 because it keeps switching back and forth between the messages above.

I have tried different USB ports and and didn't change anything. I tried a hard reset holding down the weird button combinations as well.

Anybody have any thoughts or seen this before?

ZuneMan

I got suck on this a while back with my Zune 80. It took a weird combination of UP & Back buttons and connecting it to the PC. It took me FOREVER, to fix. When I eventually got it work again, I let it die accidentally, and I was back at square one again.

I gave up and sent it into Rapid Repair for service. It turned out to be a bad cable inside of the device causing the issue. The cost was all of $20, including shipping, versus the $150 Microsoft charges to fix ANY out of warranty Zune. I had it back in my hands 6 days later.
