Question about
Stop zune software from resizing pics?
When I sync pictures and then go look at them, the resolution is really low. Anyone know how to prevent this? I think it's the zune software that's doing it. I looked all around for any settings related to pictures but only found video and audio conversion settings.
The resolution is low when you view them on the Zune HD? I'm pretty sure the Zune software downsizes them to the resolution of the device when it syncs it, which shouldn't have any noticeable effect on the quality of the picture when viewed on the Zune. There is NOT from what I can tell any conversion option for pictures on the Zune software, although I don't have my Zune HD yet, so I can't view my device options -- it's possible there might be something in there but I don't think so. I had a Zune 80 and pictures always looked beautiful on it.
However I know when you put HD video on your zune, the video is downsized when viewing on the zune but is back in full scale if you output using the dock, maybe the situation would be similar with pictures? I still don't think that would produce a low resolution picture on the zune itself though.

The picture is fine when viewing normally, it's when I zoom in. For example, I have a picture on my computer that's several megapixels and takes up a couple of megs. When I sync it, it ends up taking up only 400k and I can't zoom even a little without the picture getting pixelated.

I just noticed that as well, a little annoying now that I found out about this. Would be cool on the next update to have an option to sync portable-res or original-res. It seems it shrinks the photo to the size that fits the quality of either horizontal or vertical view. if you zoom in pass that you can tell the quality starts to deteriorate. Be awesome specially if you got a big image of a map and you want to zoom in and out of it and not loose quality. I understand shrinking it gives more space but we should have that option of control.

yea, options would be nice. maybe in the november update. i'd make a post about it in the zune.net forums if you want them to notice it more though
99% of the time though, i'm happy with the resizing. with only 32gb, i don't want to waste a lot of space by having a bunch of 8+MP pictures on it...
