Sprint upgrade eligibility

So I waited to get an EVO last year until September bc I was hearing rumors about a sprint iPhone coming in December/ January but I was tired with my old phone so I pulled the trigger on the EVO. I wanted to upgrade to the 4s but I don't have an upgrade available until July 2012. Anyone been able to talk their way into an upgrade with sprint or should I cancel my line and open a new one so that I can get an iPhone? Thanks!

With an upgrade this far off, it's unlikely that you will be able to talk them in to it. That usually only works within a month of your upgrade eligibility. My recommendation is to wait until July 2012 and not get the iPhone 4S, or buy it unlocked. The iPhone 5 will likely be released sometime near your true upgrade time, and chances are you will want that one a lot.

Depending on your relationship with Sprint and the amount of time left on your contract, cancelling and paying the ETF may be less expensive than than buying unlocked.

I had several phone conversations with Sprint trying to do the same thing. I have an EVO and my eligibility for a new phone isn't until June. They could not/would not move up my upgrade date. The best I could get was a one month service bill credit, an extra $30 bill credit, and an offer of $125 buyback for the EVO. That made the total cost for the iPhone 4s $425. I'll be sticking with the EVO until June.

Alright so I finally got around to giving sprint a call and it seemed to me like they've heard it all before. I was put on hold by the first person I spoke with who passed me off to a manager, 15 minutes later the manager was telling me how he couldn't do anything. I even asked him how much it would be to cancel my account and he didn't even blink. It seems like hes been getting these calls every minute He sent me up to another manager who was apologetic about not being able to get me an upgrade. Too bad apologetic doesn't get me an iPhone lol... 364 days and counting hopefully.
