Recently picked these up in anticipation of Modern Warfare 2. I've been mostly happy with them, though I'm noticing that the sound cuts out a bit too much for my taste. I understand that it goes with the territory of wireless headphones, but is there anything I can do to prevent the sound from completely cutting out in a critical moment?
It seems to occur whenever loud explosions happen, so I thought maybe it had something to do with the sound clipping. But I'm not sure where I'd change this? The transmitter is connected directly to the Xbox through an optical connection and I don't have the volume on the headphones up that high either. I'm also sitting only about 5 feet away from the wireless transmitter as well, and have an unobstructed view.
Any ideas on how I would prevent or significantly decrease the amount of time sound drops out?

unplug any nearby microwaves or wireless routers? I'm guessing these use the 2.4 ghz band. I hope this isn't a common problem because I was about to order these... Now I may have to look at the Astro Gaming A40 again.

I'm not sure that unplugging the wireless router is a realistic possibility though. Our Xbox is hooked up to it directly for internet connectivity. If this *is* causing the issue, that really sucks. There were no microwaves or cell phones nearby though that I was aware of. (It's possible the downstairs neighbor was using one, but they'd have to be cooking something *all* the time.)

The symptom you're describing is caused by low battery power. Please replace the batteries with fresh alkalines.

Peter has also complained about this issue. Something tells me it's not just low battery power. And even if that was the case, I'd think a gentle auditory reminder would be more useful than just letting the wireless signal crap out with no warning.

I'm wondering if the OP is right about sound clipping. However, not as a defect, but as possible protection for the person wearing them against hearing damage?

I have a similar issue with my X31, but I have not determined any particular cause. Granted, they are literally right next to my wireless router. Though one would think it would be happening ALL the time if that was the cause...

The issue is how close you are to a wireless router. I moved my base station further away and quality improved immediately.

I moved the transmitter further away from my entertainment center (and where the router is located), and also replaced the batteries. After playing a few matches, I didn't have a single dropout! It was a world of difference!

i'm getting the loud pops and occasional cut outs. I am 75% certain that it is being caused by my wireless router (wrt54gl) being less than a foot away from the base station. Unfortunately this can not be helped.
I heard that a great way to cut down on or eliminate RF interference would be an aluminum can. Like cutting open a can and using it to shield the side that faces the router. Is it possible that the signals sent off from my laptop and other wireless devices operating in the wireless B and G spectrum are being recieved by the headset?
Also, is there any channel that I could change my router to broadcast on that would cut down or eliminate the interference?

Ok, I just checked out the manual. Says that the RF broadcasts in the 2.404-2.476GHz range. My router does 2.412-2.484GHz. The last channel is 2.484 which is the 14th channel. Unfortunately, when I set it to broadcast on the fourteenth channel, my netbook fails to even see the signal.
For people that are getting interference, I recommend setting your routers to channel 14. If your wireless devices support it, then they should automatically switch to that channel and start broadcasting/receiving it.

I am glad that you guys have come to find that keeping the headphones base to close to a wireless router cause all sorts of issues.
I also own a pair of these and I have also found that a lot of dropouts etc etc are down to the chat cable if used with the Xbox 360. As MS decided to go with a 2.5mm jack in stead of 3.5mm you don't get an exact fit.
I found a way to help. Connect the straight connection into the controller then connect the L shaped connection to the headset. This helps limit the movement of the cables connection limiting the sound issues you get.
At times I still get static,poping etc but only when I move the cable by accident whilst moving on my chair etc etc.
These are awesome they really are. I am glad that I wait my missus bought these for my Xmas and gave me them early :)

If your MW2 sound is all the way up, regardless of how loud your turtles are. They will cut out. So just turn down your MW2 GAME VOLUME and turn up your headset volume.
