So the main difference between this one and the s8100 is more zoom right? And of course the ~$100 pricetag.

More zoom and a better wide angle, yes, for $50 more. But from what I've read, it's also a bit larger/thicker and they've downshifted slightly on some of the details like its macro, exposure times, image stabilization... the lens is also shifted to the left (vs the s8100's center).

Seems like they shaved off some and are charging a bit more to improve just one or two higher profile features? Not worth upgrading, unless the zoom and a wider shot is your top priority.
