So now that we're getting comfortable using our tablets day to day, I'm curious; do you like to use your tablet in landscape or portrait?

This may seem a silly question, but I think it's an important question to consider for the designers of these devices. Regardless of what the manufacturer says, I've yet to use a truly agnostic device.

As much as I love the amount of info I can see in portrait, landscape seems to be more comfortable for me.

Thoughts?

I'm usually in portrait, unless I'm watching a video or typing a lot. Easier for viewing websites and reading, which are the things I do most often.

I almost always use my iPad in portrait, unless I'm looking at a photo or video that demands landscape. That said, being able to comfortably use the iPad in both orientations is a one of its strengths -- using a 16:10 Honeycomb tablet in portrait always feels almost silly to me.

Almost always landscape, especially since the official twitter app works so much better in landscape mode.

I use my iPad 50% in portrait (reading books, magazines, surfing) and 50% in landscape orientation (video, games or apps with "optimized UI").

I would bet the result is different for a widescreen tablet, the question being then: do you enjoy using your tablet in landscape when reading books or magazines or surfing the web?

Portrait for me, as I use my iPad mostly for reading. However, lately I've found myself using portrait even for video, since I usually use it for video while in bed, and the portrait mode positions the video a little bit higher where I don't have to bend my neck as much.

I find myself mostly using portrait mode. I find it easier to use when browsing websites (similar to reading an book, you don't have to read long lines from left to right). On occasion, I will use it in landscape mode for editing photos, or using apps that support a column / panel to display extra information.

Always landscape. So much so that my wallpaper is the guts of the iPad in landscape mode :)

I have a Xoom, and it's basically made to be used in landscape, and I think it does well in that set up. If I had an iPad I would be confused about which to use, and prolly switching back and forth, not an issue on the Xoom, for better or worse.

Pretty much always use portrait on my iPad 2 and that's the main reason I'm not feeling these 16:9 tablets. It looks like they'd be clumsy to use in portrait.

Also, I'm not sure how much more agnostic you can get than a 4:3 iPad. A perfect square?

Games and Videos tend to be landscape for me, reading is portrait and web browsing varies from site to site.

Since I use my iPad mainly for reading, portrait is my general orientation.

I'm a portrait user primarily on websites to keep scrolling to a minimum. The double tap to zoom and text reflow makes the Xoom work perfecly in portrait for me.

i would say about 60 in landscape and 40 in portrait. when I'm using it to watch video or enter notes where i use the keyboard i tend to use it in landscape. but when reading magazines or surfing the web i tend to use it in portrait.

i find it also depends on the application as well. it seems most games are landscape and i find it easier to use magazines or some of the reader application and e-book readers in portrait.

Definitely varies for me. Landscape is probably more frequent as I like the slightly larger on-screen keyboard when typing, and the extra width when browsing.

Potrait on my iPad - I prefer to feel like I am reading a book or magazine. The weight distribution and balancing also feels better in my hand. I will almost always use landscape for anytime I need to type, though.

It really depends on what I'm doing. Mail, most games, RSS reader, landscape. If I'm reading a magazine, book, or website, definitely in portrait mode. I like the idea of using the web like a book.

I like to be in landscape... I watch a lot of videos and do most of my stuff in landscape. I like the wideness of it rather than the tall.

I'm a portrait man myself, but my wife likes landscape. I find it easier to hold in tablet mode, although when surfing so websites seem to be more readable in landscape.
