Question about
Smashed iPhone 3G cover?
The boy (my almost 5 year old) smashed up the glass on his iPhone 3G pretty bad. I gave this phone to him when I upgraded my wife to the iPhone 4. Are there any do-it-yourself fixes? How much would it cost to have it done at an Apple store? Do they even do that? He's pretty bummed out. He's a total whiz at Angry Birds and Cut the Rope and I had finally got him to use a few neat reading and math apps I found. Thanks.

Apple and many other repair shops can fix it for you, but if you want to save some money Ifixit sells a DIY kit and has really detailed step by step instructions. www.ifixit.com/iPhone-Parts/iPhone-3G-Front-Panel-...

I just bought the front [less LCD] from Amazon for about $15 shipped. In my case the glass was intact but the ear speaker didn't work. It came with tools, and I made the swap in about 20 minutes, referring to two random YouTube videos [from Directfix.com] for the how-to.

Apple will be the most expensive place to go. If you've got a iPhone repair kiosk in a local shopping mall [there's one in just about every mall here in the Minneapolis area] chances are they'll do it for $50-60.
