Question about
Should Microsoft buy the HP Personal Systems Group?
This article by Jean-Louis Gassée (www.mondaynote.com/2011/08/21/hp-what-leo-apotheke...) is probably the best article on the current happenings at HP. The idea that Jean-Louis throws out about Microsoft buying the Personal Systems Group that HP intends to spinoff sounds pretty good if MSFT can build a vertically integrated device & software company similar to Apple. With Nokia as a solid mobile phone partner and a thriving gaming platform in XBox, Microsoft could become a true competitor to Apple & Google.
what do you mean by vertically integrated? I see this term bandied about a lot lately do you mind defining what you mean by this?

I like this idea. Apple stores and Microsoft stores in every mall. lol. Alas, I have little faith Microsoft would do any better running a PC company than HP or Dell has.

I would have a problem with as long as they allowed the employees/ designers to stay doing what they do best and if they did not interfere with them. However MS is a software company not hardware, they are also not (yet) a general consumer company like HP. MS is a business first company and might stay like that. I also think MS making their own computers might be against the DOJ ruling. I know that their oversight of MS has ended but I wonder would it occur again if MS start selling their own computers.
