Should I get an iPad case?

I just got an iPad, and I've never had a tablet before. The iPad has an aluminum finish at the back and is it necessary that I should get a case or something? And also since the screed is gorilla and that I'm not going to put it in my pocket, should I put a scratch guard? I am planning on getting a sleeve for ease of portability. Is that enough or should I get those hard shells and the Scratch Guard?

I'll post my answer from an another similar question.
"Depends on your life style.

Like mine for example, it isn't all that rugged but I am a forgetful guy, so sharp stuff ends up in the backpack with the ipad so I got a case and a screen protector, otherwise I would randomly be in class or somewhere and remember my ipad is in my backpack with a bunch f sharp stuff that could easily damage it and freak out and make a fool of myself, not to mention I drop it way more than I like to admit.

It all depends on where you put your stuff when you aren't using it and how you use it, if your a little clumsy it would be good peace of mind."

The iPad design do not allow you to drop it (talking from my own experience), if you aren't sure that it will never fall (like everyone), you are going to need some protection. The Apple Smart Cover is a really cool and effective way to protect the screen, but the Apple Smart Case should be the best choice now (guessing) ... (please, stay away from display skin protection, it's wrong!)#lol

Nothing is "necessary," but I don't use my iOS devices without a film protector. Not only do they provide peace of mind (it's a lot easier and cheaper to replace a film protector than a screen), but I also have no qualms about spraying a bit of cleaner on a microfiber cloth and cleaning it. Note that if you do get one of these for your iPad's screen, the brand does matter. I've tried ZAGG, Speck, a couple of no-name brands in a pinch, and Power Support USA[1]. Power Support USA make—by far—the best film protectors, and now I won't waste my time or money on any others. I always get the anti-glare/matte protectors, but I accidentally bought the regular/crystal one once and its quality was just as good.

Lots of people love sleeves, but I hate them. I like my device protected while I'm using it, and I like to be able to use it immediately, not waste time opening the sleeve and removing the iPad. I got a case for peace of mind, too, as well as convenience. Peace of mind because it's not difficult for the iPad to go flying out of my hands (this is exactly what would happen if I had a sleeve—I'd send it flying or drop it whilst removing it from the sleeve), and convenience because my case[2] allows for 360° positioning, making it really easy to prop up the device in portrait or landscape mode next to me while I'm working or relaxing.

Better to be safe than sorry!

Get a sleeve/case. Avoid screen protector(unnecessary if you get a sleeve). It spoils the feel of the screen!
