Yes, ditch it. I'm not going to be rational about this one and try to explain myself. If I had the money I'd drive you to the store and get one too.

Hard to say.
If most of your gear is Apple, then the iPhone can fit into that ecosystem really well. I happen to mostly use Google services, so Android makes more sense for me.
Depends on what you want and need to do with your phone,

What about the Galaxy/Android don't you like and what about it do you like? What about the iPhone/iOS don't you like or what do you like? You don't give much details on what you are looking for and that will just turn this thread in to some flame war between fan boys.

It really depends on what you want out of your smartphone. If you want to be constantly tweaking and customizing your phone--software that is, then I'd say stick with Android. If you want a consistent user interface & a crazy amount of applications, consider the iPhone.

I use nearly all Google services on the iPhone and I'm very pleased

The Galaxy S is not obsolete yet. I'd say wait out the iPhone 5 is you really want an iPhone.

If you want LTE then it's an easy choice for the Gnex.

iOS won't get LTE on mobile handsets until close to 2013.
