Should I buy a Samsung Focus or wait for a 2nd Gen Windows phone?

I'm planning on getting a Windows phone on AT&T. The Samsung Focus is only $50 in store and $0.01 on Amazon. I don't really want to spend more than $100 because this is going to be a secondary phone to my iPhone 4. Should I get the Samsung Focus next month or wait to see what the second generation hardware brings? I'm kind of wanting to see what Nokia brings.

I gave a similar answer to someone else a few weeks back, I would go ahead and buy one now. Especially considering this is going to be second phone for you. The 2nd gen specs that microsoft outlined are really underwhelming, so unless they or their hardware partners are planning to surprise us with something more interesting, it looks like the wp7 phones we already have are going to be the best/only option for a while. Nokia does seem like they might be worth waiting for, but even they don't seem to know when they'll have something out on the market. It could be 6 months or more.

I had a Samsung Focus for the week that it came out, and the OS just wasn't ready so i returned it for a iPhone 4. But I feel the Nokia Mango will be a phone I would be interested in, so I will wait for that.

Yeah, I really like the Samsung Focus loaner that I've been using. I think I may get that then. Thanks

Tough timing to make this decision. Mango should be out on new hardware in a few months...then again, a cheaper current phone will get Mango (though the update process has been a nightmare for most users so far).

But given that it will be a secondary phone, go ahead and get one now. There's no point getting the best up-to-date phone as a secondary.

If you can find one used, I'd get one. If it's a secondary phone, I don't see why you would sign up for another 2 year contract. The Amazon deal is locked for a 2 year contract at that price. You can find used ones on ebay for pretty cheap (notably though, nothing lower than $150).

That aside, the Focus is the bees knees when it comes to WP7. It's dope.

If you're on AT&T anyway, then the contract doesn't hurt, but you should double check that the $0.01 on Amazon isn't just for new activations. Assuming existing customers can take advantage of the deal, I'd say go for the Focus if it's going to be your backup phone. Otherwise, if it's more expensive for existing customers, I'd say hold out and see what Nokia brings.
