SD Card?

Do I need a certain speed for the HD capture? Like a class 4 or class 6?

Go with a class 6 to be safe. Kodak is selling (overpriced) class 2 and 4 cards and claiming compatibility with the Zi8 but high speed cards are cheep enough that you should get a 6 if your concerned. A class 10 would probably be a waste of money.

According to Kodak's web info - 10 mins of HD recording only requires 1 GB.

Can't see the need for excessive card speed. My DSLR can write out a hell
of a lot more data than that in 10 mins.

Just bought the zi8. Threw in a 8gb sdhc card and powered on. Cam doesn't seem to recognize the card and freezes. Can't even power off. Had to reset the battery. This happened before and after a firmware upgrade. Threw in an old 1 gb sd card and cam works fine. I'm technically deficient, so what am I not doing incorrectly?

I'm using a 32GB Class 6 SDHC card and after about 10 seconds recording my Zi8 freezes and the SD card symbol with an ! comes up on the screen. I've read this is a sign that the card is too slow. However, you're saying above that a class 6 should be OK (I've read this elsewhere on the internet as well).

I've used an old 2GB microSD card in an SD card adaptor and that works fine (apart from not having enough capacity for full HD) so the camera's not faulty.

I've been looking into class 10 SDHC cards but they're really expensive! Can anyone recommend a good (value) SD card for the Zi8 - preferably one you've used and know works well? It doesn't have to be 32GB but the bigger the better!

Thanks!

P.S. My firmware is up to date (version 1.06)
