I'm wondering this myself. A friend has some cracked glass. I'm MORE than capable of replacing it, but I can't find the part! :P

I just wish they didn't use glass in the first place. I'd rather them putting out matte displays and have the glossy finish as an option. I bet 90% of people using the device outside would agree.

On my Unibody MacBook Pro 15, I had the unfortunate experience of the glass covering the screen cracking, within a month and a half of the product's release. I don't have a clue how it cracked, as I babied that laptop as best as possible. But I opened it up one day to a spiderweb of cracks on the screen. However, the LCD panel was perfectly fine. With the glass being glued to the rest of the screen, it's nigh impossible to simply replace the glass. Thus, the whole top lid of the laptop must be replaced.

At the point in time when the laptop broke, the display unit's for my laptop were going for $750 US, at the cheapest, plus shipping costs to Canada. As it would end up being cheaper getting it fixed by the Tech Shop in my University, I just dropped it off there for repair. At a cost of $1050. It was better than having a gimped laptop, and there was no other option.

i bought the replacement glass off of ebay for about $38US.

it's a pain in the arse to install, unless you do it the long way, i.e. logic board removal etc
