Replace Optical Drive in mid 2007 24" iMac

My optical drive has pretty much burned out and needs to be replaced. Apple of course, charge approx. $500 to replace it. A raw drive should cost under $100. The specs list an Optiarc AD-5630A, however, this drive is very difficult to find online. Has anyone else substituted a different replacement drive successfully?
