I haven't had any problems with my Roku remote. You might consider trying a universal remote. You might already have a 'universal remote' laying around. If it's capable, you might be able to program it to control you're Roku. My Roku remote works up to 20+ feet away. My Roku remote works immediately whenever I click the buttons. I haven't noticed any type of lag or non-response issues. If you're having problems with the remote, you could also try changing the batteries, or contact Roku about the issue.

You can always get a universal remote like the logitechs, they seem to have a great range and work everytime.

Also, there is a 99 cent Roku remote app for the iPhone (DVPRemote). It works great.

i have the same problem with the roku when the screensaver comes up. i read on the roku website it has something to do with interference from the television's backlighting but seeing as how my the remote for my blu-ray and television don't experience the problem roku needs to be working on a fix in the form of a new remote or a software upgrade.
