Random Power Cutoffs

So this is the THIRD time today that I was playing a video game (NCAA Football 2010, while logged in online) that my ps3 just shut off completely. The first time I assumed the power had went off in my house, but then it did it a second time. The system was not hot at all nor had I played the game for a long time when the power cut off occured. This third time it just happened again out of the blue. Anybody have any idea what could be causing this? Do I need to look into getting it repaired. When the system shut down the red light just kept flashing...is that a sign or something??? Also I keep my system vertical and have kept it that way for over a couple of years now.
