PS3 price drop -- now $250USD. Would you consider getting one?

It looks like Sony has dropped the price of the PlayStation 3 by $50. It's now $250, instead of $300. Were you on the fence about getting a PS3? Does the security breach from earlier this year keep you away?

I think this is a great opportunity for people to go and buy one, even if they already own an Xbox 360 and Wii. The PS3 has an excellent library of exclusive games (and my personal favorite of this generation).

Really, don't expect the Xbox 3 and PS4 before 2013/2014 (I would say 2014, but the release of the Wii U on 2012 makes the future a little uncertain).

I don't ever plan to get another Sony console, no matter how cheap they get. For online multiplayer gaming, which is the only reason I even care to own one of the top tier consoles, the XBox 360 with XBL just can't be beat. I am a Microsoft hater, but I have to give them props for XBL, from which I have derived countless hours of fun and have managed to stay in touch with friends from my old hometown 2 states away.

I get that PSN is free, but we saw this year that you get what you pay for, and I will happily continue paying for XBL given how reliable it has been for me over the years.

Having said all that, if someone asked for a recommendation and they primarily wanted a multimedia device that could also play current games, I would tell them to get the PS3. If, like me, they mostly care about online gaming, I will tell them to get a 360 (unless they have an endless supply of disposable income to constantly upgrade, in which case it might be better to get a gaming PC and use Steam).

I already have one but I think it's a good deal. If they dropped it ANOTHER $50 I'd get a second one. :D

I would say no. The next-gen consoles are due to be out soon, and I'm pretty content with my Xbox 360 and gaming PC. Getting a PS3 would be having to buy all new games for a platform with which I'm completely unfamiliar. My next console purchase is likely to be the Xbox 720, or whatever it may be.

If I didn't own any consoles and really wanted something to game with, I think I would. The PS3 is a fantastic bluray player too (that's the main reason I bought mine a year ago). If you can wait another year or two, the next generation consoles will be out (although they will be much more expensive). The best place to put your money right now is toward a gaming PC.

The thing that excites me about this price drop is that I have one of the original PS3's. Cheesy little 20GB model that's huge. I'm constantly worried that it might die -- so now if it does, it's a bit more affordable to replace it!

I currently have a PS3 and Xbox but if I didn't have the PS3 I would definitely pick one up. While I don't use either console much right now the exclusives on PS3 are really fantastic.

This is 5+ year old technology. Better waiting for the next update and have fun playing with what you already have.

Well the one I've had for several years is beginning to fail on me, so this is what I've been waiting for in order to replace it.
