Question about
problems with eris after turning off then on
so i turned my eris off to ignore any incoming messages. when i turned it back on it would say "sorry blah blah has stopped unexpecetedly' or 'was force closed", and to top it i have no signal and it just says searching for signal. wtf is goin on? i turned it off left is off for like 20 minutes still have the same prob. took the battery out let it sit for like half hour, still the same prob. can any1 offer any help?
If "Blah Blah" is an app you use, try uninstalling it and then turning off the phone, remove the battery and then turn it back on.
If that does nothing and your signal is still gone, you may have to restore it. It's not much fun as you have to reset all the stuff. I've reset mine before.
To do this go into the Settings > Security > Reset Phone.
Give it a minute or two to run through all the stuff and then you need to setup your email and such. Doesn't take too long, just depends on how many apps you have to re-download.

I've read that having too many apps (or too much data) in RAM can have this effect, so if you installed a bunch of apps since the last time you shut it down, this may have caused it.
If you can get to settings>Applications>Manage Applications, you can try to remove any third party apps that you do not necessarily need, or perhaps go into some of your apps and hit the "clear cache" button if there is cache memory being used. (While you are in application manager, after it spends its time collecting data about your apps, you can press menu and choose to have them sorted by size, so the apps that are taking up lots of RAM are listed first.)
Otherwise, I agree with the above: a hard reset may be the only alternative.
