My friends car has a built in hands free system that allows her to sync with the Iphone and receive her calls using the speakers in her car via bluetooth. It works flawlessly. It even has a phone book that automatically synced with her iphone and now all of her contacts are also listed in the cars nav system as well.
However, there is no way that I have found to play itunes music on her iphone, using the bluetooth connection, through her cars speakers. Does anyone know if this is even possible?

the car system needs to support a2dp if it is manufacturer fitted it may not support this and the phone must be a 3g or 3gs (not the original iPhone)

It was sort of possible on 2.0 by answering a call over bluetooth then playing an itunes song without hanging up or some trickery like that, but this may have been fixed. And of course if it actually supports stereo bluetooth, but that's unlikely in a car.

If the phone was already paired with the car and you didn't see the BT icon in the iPod app, then there's no hope, sorry. There are roundabout ways of going about it, but you're better off just going with an aux or iPod cable.

I have this feature working flawlessly with my 2009 Acura TSX. I mostly listen to ball games via the MLB at Bat app (works over BT!!!) and Podcasts. Haven't tried music yet but I was curious if sound quality degrades from using the BT connection?
And yeah, you need to see the BT icon in the iPod app in order to pair with a set of speakers over A2DP.

I have stereo music playback via bluetooth working in my car with my Sony Head-unit. It works perfectly with my iPhone 3G and 3GS with the iPhone 3.0 software ... sounds better than using an AUX cable as well.

I use the LiquidAUX bluetooth car kit that plugs into your AUX port in your car and can play your iPhone iPod music through the car speakers.
It works great minus the grounding whining issue which im getting a grounding cable to fix.
The only thing that annoys me is that the iPhone still is not avrcp compatible so you cannot do voice control or NEXT/PREVIOUS song which just is weird that the iPhone 3.0 Software does not support AVRCP!
Anyways, it works really great if you dont want to spend more than $50 to get Stereo Bluetooth in your car through the AUX port!
