Performance?

I have two questions. My brother wants a netbook for taking notes in class. Can this netbook run Youtube HD videos? And although this netbook is not already listed on the Jolicloud website as "supported hardware", is it likely that it will install and run properly? Thanks.

the 5101 runs Youtube HD great. I'm actually typing from mine now.... Jolicloud should work fine, but I haven't tested it out yet.

Wow awesome thanks! I"ve been asking around everywhere. Youtube videos on the HP Mini 5101 and other places. That's really all that was holding me back from getting this netbook.

Alright great thanks. If it's not solid on all HD video content, then I'm gonna wait till HP minis adopt the ion platform.

Honestly I think that Adobe Flash is the culprit here... technically youtube HD isn't actually HD, but just a higher res video (not sure if you knew that.. ) It will play other types with similar resolutions fine, just not flash. Either way, if you can wait, definitely wait for the Ion netbooks.

No sorry, what I was referring to by all "HD content" was like all HD videos on Youtube, not like high def video in general. Yeah I know, flash for some reason is a total resource hog. I think that's why Apple isn't allowing it on the iPhone, which is a smart move by them. I'm hoping HTML5 is supported soon, so that they can run video natively through that, as well as netbooks.

The Ion really shouldn't help you. brockorr is right, its flash. The reason is that flash doesn't use GPU processing and relies on your CPU. The optional hardware accelerator won't help either. What you can do is overclock the proc. I've heard of other HP Mini boards getting up to 1.86 pretty comfortably...

you are best off just finding a netbook that has the atom 330 processor. It has two cores and in my experience has been much better at handling hd video flash or otherwise.

I was just on mine trying to figure it out, and for me if i am not running any CPU intensive programs it works finel
