Question about
Other software?
i am worndering how this device embeds pictures with the gps coordinates. Will it work with other software than the sony software (such as picasa) or will it only work with that? i would really like to geo-tag my photos this way, but dont want to be stuck with only using sony's software
This device does nothing except store GPS coordinates every 15 seconds. A log is written containing waypoints with the timestamp of the GPS signal. Using the provided USB cable, one can download the waypoint logfiles to the computer.
What do I do with the data on my Mac?
1) Using the program LoadMyTracks (www.cluetrust.com/LoadMyTracks.html), I can convert the GPS info into GPX/KML format for use with Google Earth.
2) Using the Maperture plugin (www.ubermind.com/products/maperture.php) for Apple Aperture, I can automatically geo-tag my photos (taken with my Nikon D700 - not a SONY), as Maperture matches the GPS info with the photos by the timestamps. Just be sure your camera is set to the right time zone (although there are programs that can correct this as well).
I am sure there are many tools to do this - Mac or Windows or Linux.
Any other uses someone has? I'd be interested to read them.
