On-screen keyboard sluggish out of the box

Because of low battery power I guess. (approx 40%) Or because I just applied a Zagg screen protector? I don't know. But after plugging in the supplied cable to the USB port on my computer, the keyboard started working and I could type in the wifi password and enter my Google credentials.
