O.k., so I shelled out the extra $50 almost exclusively b/c of the keyboard, but now I need some help. What apps are must haves?
I use the app Program Manger that comes with the phone and put it as a widget on one of my desktop pages. It helps a lot. I also go into (from desktop) menu > setting >applications > running services to see if any rouge services are running and close them. if you didn't pay for the Sprint Hotpot service (30 bucks extra), then you can turn off that service because you are not using it.
I'm still learning but I have 6 fam & friends with Andriod phone (3 w/ EVOs 2 w/ EPICs & 1 Droid), so there is a lot of sharing going on. :-)

I have had my Epic 4G since launch and I have to say that battery life is pretty good. I take it off the charger at 6am and don't have to charge it again until 10p or so and I use the phone a lot. I find it much better than the battery life I would get on the EVO.

full-featured twitter app: "Touiteur"
Robo-Defense is a fun game your kid might like. Also, Paper Toss and Doodle Jump are good time-wasters. You might also be into the MLB Mobile At Bat 2010 app (basically MLB.tv / gameday for your phone).
