Question about

Ok... So I have two netbooks, but since getting an iPad, I need to downsize.

Do I keep the Dell Mini 10v which is hackintosh'd running Snow Leopard but has a 160GB standard HDD or the HP Mini 1000 (first version) running Ubuntu Netbook Remix but has a 16GB SSD. Otherwise, specs are the same. Haven't done a true battery comparison because neither has run the same OS while I've had them.

Thoughts? Need some help on this one.

Of course it depends on your uses. Do you also have a full (not underpowered) computer? Do you have/use an external HDD?

Here are my thoughts: If you store media elsewhere (an external drive, SAMBA, ssh to a different computer, etc) from your netbooks, I would say that you don't need more than a 16 GB SSD (and its durable, so travelling with it will give you better piece of mind). If you already have a mac (and it looks like on your profile you do), there is no need to have an underpowered mac netbook. Certainly, the things that macs are especially useful for like photo or video editing will be done on your larger machine. Also, I feel that Ubuntu takes advantage of weaker hardware better.

All that said, there are a few reasons for keeping the Mini 10v. Do you like the keyboard layout better? Do you like the trackpad better? How bout the screen? Are you using MobileME? If so, then you have super syncing between the Macs. Also, with all that storage space (as compared with the other), you can bring your media with you without add-ons when you take a 5 hour train ride or 10 hour plain ride.

Personally, I'd put desktop Ubuntu 10.10 on the Dell Mini, and lose the HP Mini. I never really liked Netbook Remix.

Well the update is that one of my netbooks was stolen (the HP mini with the SSD) and the Dell Mini 10v got setup with Jolicloud and given to my mom. I use the wife's iPad occasionally but really just mainly use my iMac, or my Dell E6410 running Win7 (work laptop) or my Nexus One to couch browse. Netbooks (form factor-wise) were kind of a fad for me but something like a Macbook Air 11.5 inch or a 12-inch notebook running maybe Chrome OS or hackintoshed could be in my future someday.
