Question about
Ok, I'm fairly new to DSLRs but I'm hoping to get into better photography and have finally saved up enough to try and purchase one.
My girlfriend knows a guy selling his Nikon D60, and while I'm a Cannon fan, I'm definitely interested in checking it out to see if its a good deal. The thing is, I don't know enough not to get potentially scammed so I was hoping someone could maybe give me some pointers as to what to look for to make sure its not damaged or has something wrong with it. Also, what would be a fair price for the camera used if its been taken care of? Thank you for any help you can offer. Sorry for being such a noob.
My suggestion is take a bunch of pictures with it first. Try all the dial settings and change out lenses. New the D60 was available at low as $700 with 2 lenses and a case (probably even cheaper somewhere else). If buying the camera body alone I would not pay more then $300 if the camera is in great shape (no more the $250 if it looks used). With lenses $450 would be a great buy. The camera came off the shelfs late last year so it is not a super old model. You could get the D5000 which is the new equivalent with a 12.3 mp for about $670. I used to be a rebel fan but have really enjoyed the d60. If you can get it with both lenses for about $400 then go for it!
