Nvidia ION LE or ION?

Does anyone know which gpu chip they are using. Read that there was going to be an upgrade to ION but have not come across any new articles stating the official change over.

Seems like on the front page of HP's site for the Mini 311, it still says that the chip is ION LE and from what I have read the LE is a lite verson of the regular ION chip (no Direct X 10 support which I would rather have).

Anyone know when they will make the change or is it already in place?

Any help?
Thanks.

While I do not own a Mini 311, I believe that they have implemented the ION (non-LE) already as I just checked and while their warning notices (i.e., if you select the N280 CPU it will say that you did not select the ION LE for N280 option) say ION LE, the actual Graphics Card section in the process says just simply "ION".

I find it a little silly that they are offering 3GB as the max for RAM, but I assume it is because currently they are only offering 32bit XP/Windows 7. It's actually cheaper to go that route versus sticking with 1GB, then getting a 4GB because looking online I am finding 4GB DDR3 SODIMMs going for about 200 (!!!) or more.

I am personally very much on the fence about buying this. I am hoping that it will eventually get a dual core Atom, but that might be asking too much. If it did, this would be the perfect netbook. It's either this or the Studio 14z (yes I know, it's kind of unfair to compare a notebook vs netbook, but it's the next best thing in my opinion).

The mini 311 uses the ION LE, they most likely will be upgrading to full ION some time soon (not exactly sure when though), since Direct X 10 isn't officially supported in Windows XP, but it is in Windows 7.

The ION LE's only difference is that Direct X 10 support is disabled on chip.

You think it'll be an option that will cost extra? I certainly hope not.

As for 3GB DDR3 ram I certainly think this is something that is crossing into the notebook department but I think is awsome for a netbook.

HP is now using ION, not ION LE, for their Mini 311s, I suppose that they switched today since Windows 7 came out. You can see it on their specs as well as during the customization process: www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_s...

As indicated by Engadget via Lilputing : www.engadget.com/2009/10/12/hp-mini-311-set-for-sp...

Granted, I don't see Windows 7 Professional being an option, nor the SSD...

I placed my order yesterday afternoon after the spec bump appeared on the configuration site. Called an HP sales rep specifically to ask the ION/ION LE question and he confirmed that it was the full ION.

I have the HP Mini 311 1000NR. I bought it before the release of Windows 7. The non-7 versions have the ION LE but you can just install the ION Drivers and get DX10 support.

The hardware in the 311 (either XP or Windows 7 version) is exactly the same. The only difference is that in XP the full features are not available due to XP's lack of Direct X 10 support.

If you install Windows 7 + the ION drivers on the ION LE version, it will unlock the full power of the chip.
