Question about

Nook or Kindle or iBooks

Okay, so I wanted to know everybody's opinion on what I should do about eBooks. Recently I have been reading books through iBooks, but by the time I go to read a book at night my eyes are pretty tired, plus my iPad has fallen and hit me in the nose too many times now.
I'm thinking about switching over to the Nook ecosystem because of their nice software and appealing hardware. I know Amazon is in more places, but right now it feels like the Nook software and hardware situation is better if I ever were to get an e-reader.

The only problem I've found with the Nook system so far is that they do not have a Windows phone application, but they seem to have an application for every other platform so I think it's only a matter of time. The other problem is that I still prefer iBooks to everything when reading books on the iPad because of great it looks and how full-featured the app is.

I really wish I could mix and match, but the current situation of ebooks is seeped heavily in DRM and I do not think it's going to change for a while, especially with how easy ebooks are to pirate. I just don't know if I want to lock myself into the iBooks ecosystem or another one that I will regret down the road.

I am partial to the Kindle, since I own one, but the Nook is pretty slick. iBooks is device limited (no eInk reader), but if you already have an iPad, why not? Whatever you decide on, Calibre is the ultimate eBook manager/news downloader/converter (and free!).

Personally I'm a Kindle fan. Amazon currently supports every platform, and the Kindle with it's E-Ink display is much easier on your eyes than any tablet or phone, but if you really want a tablet (if the rumors are true, that is) Amazon will be releasing a Kindle tablet in the very near future. Kindle also supports Audible.com now, and I happen to be a member and love my audiobooks, so that also makes Kindle a major plus to me. Everyone has to make up their on mind in this war, but in my mind, when it comes to ebooks, Kindle is the only option.

I like Nook. Not only do they have there hardware house most in order, but they also make it easy to intagrate stuff no bought from them in to there apps. Which means my Project Gutenburg downloads look pretty.

I bought a Kindle a month ago, and I'm kind of liking the new Nook design, though I haven't been hands-on with it yet. I'm waiting for the next Kindle to be announced, I'm sure it will be just as good if not better than the new Nook. I would wait until the newest Kindle is announced before you decide to buy.

I am a little partial to the Nook myself. We have a Nook Color and it is great for reading, basic web browsing, and email. You are probably leaning toward the regular Nook. It seems very similar but smaller and lighter. While we do like the software itself, the books for the Nook are a little higher than Amazon's Kindle store. It also seems like the Nook has taken some of the advances in technology well in hardware and software.

You might want to wait until closer to the end of summer when there's more info about Amazon's tablet. It will probably be a better device than the Nook, but also more expensive

If you like reading books, in bed or in light its the new Nook. Its is small light and robust. if you add in magazines then you need an LCD screen. I use a Nook for books and iPad for Magazines myself I need no other e-ink reader

For what's available right now I'd pick the Nook too. The only thing appealing about the Kindle is Whispernet, which isn't much use unless you travel or don't have a smartphone data plan.

If this question is still open, then based on the recent (yesterday Wed 28 Sep 2011) Amazon announcement of three new Kindle devices (The $79 non-touchscreen Kindle, the $99 Kindle Touch, the $149 Kindle Touch 3G and the $199 Kindle Fire Android tablet) I would definitely say the scales are tipped in favour of the Amazon offering. That said I own a 3rd gen Kindle and having tried a multitude of other devices, I cannot fault my Kindle. As far as reading books is concerned nothing beats it. Tablets like the iPad, Flyer, Galaxy tab... literally any backlit device... just cannot compete (weight, battery life, eyestrain, heat).

Which leaves the Nook and the Sony, and I think for someone like me who really values mobility, anywhere access and the ability to read on multiple devices, the 3G Kindle + WhisperNet / WhisperSync cannot be beaten for sheer convenience. That the e-ink screen, manufacturer's reputation & customer service are all best of class don't hurt at all.
